The Trento Lawtech Group’s commitment with Biobanking continues

Thanks to the work of some members of the Trento Lawtech Research Group (Pascuzzi, Izzo,  Macilotti, Ducato) the Department of Legal Science of the University of Trento has received a substantial grant, establishing a scientific collaboration with two important players in the Italian landscape of cancer genomics research: the Fondazione del Piemonte per l’Oncologia and the Fondazione per la Ricerca Biomedica Onlus, both no-profit institutions based in Piedmont, which take part to prestigious international networks of research.

Among the others, the goals of this collaboration (which will run from July 2011 to July 2012) will be to analyze the legal issues surrounding the use of human tissues for clinical and research purposes, with special emphasis on the aspects pertaining to the transplantation of human carcinogenic tissues in animal models; the collaboration is also aimed at designing the institutional stucture and the contractual forms and documents which are needed in order to establish and run a biobank supporting this animal model-based research in oncology; eventually the research will also consider the IP issues which must be delved with in order to ensure protection to the innovations developed during the biobank’s activities.

The Trento Lawtech Group is actively involved in the search ofpartners willing to launch common scientific projects in the various fields charaterizing its research activity. We welcome manifestations of interest from any institution sharing our ideas and goals at the international and national level.
