Comparative Food Law

The regulation of the agro-food chains has acquired distinctive features which permit to assert its conceptual and functional autonomy with respect to other areas of law. The topics dealt with concern the development of regulatory standards for the industry (with specific regard to the wine industry), the relation between private standards and public norms, the regulation of geographical indications, food safety, labeling and advertising, and the civil liability in the agro-food chains, with a particular focus on producers, distributors and certifiers. The legal analysis, characterized by a comparative slant, is enriched with the clues offered by economic analysis of law and cognitive sciences, in particular with regard to the perception of risk.
