Energy Law and Innovation

The fight against global warming asks for radical technological transformations. The shift to low-carbon technologies is the only way to scale down the huge costs of climate change policies. Though, innovation processes do not depend exclusively from R&D investments, but also from the presence of institutions able to support the production and diffusion of new knowledge. This area of research analyzes the institutional barriers to innovation. The topics explored include:

  • the role of institutions in innovation systems
  • regulations aimed at fostering  the development of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and green building
  • the role of intellectual property rights in the energy sector
  • the relationship between network regulation and large-scale development of renewable energy
